Back to the daily grind

I drove back to Virginia from Michigan today. The drive was a bit longer than normal due to construction, so it took me nine hours and forty-five minutes to make it back to Virginia. My mood wasn't that great, since I wasn't looking forward to another work week in DC. The past year and a half of spending most of my time in Virginia has been lousy. My job has been really lame, my apartment is less than stellar, and my social life has been non-existent. Plus, to top it all off, having to park half a mile away from my apartment didn't help my mood much - have I ever mentioned how much I loathe Arlington? I guess it's time for me to start fixing this mess, since I'm the one who got myself into it.

Yellowstone Trip

Last Wednesday, I flew out to Montana for a trip to see Yellowstone National Park. I spent Thursday and Friday hiking in the park, and then played tourist on Saturday and Sunday. The size and scope of the park is amazing. The park is about fifty-four miles wide, and sixty-three miles from north to south. The terrain includes mountains, hot springs, geysers, lakes, canyons, and waterfalls. Wildlife roam through the park, including bison, elk, antelopes, moose, and coyotes. Bears and wolves also inhabit the park, but thankfully, I didn't have a close encounter with either.

Old Faithful

I went camping on Friday night at Madison (elevation 6800 feet), and fell asleep listening to trumpeter swans and elks in the distance. I camped out at Canyon (elevation 7700 feet) on Saturday night, and elk walked through the camp as they climbed up the mountain.

I took hundreds of photographs during my trip, and have posted a few of them online here.

I managed to catch a pretty bad cold on Sunday, which made the flight back on Monday a bit miserable. I was happy to get back to my own bed and get some sleep. Hopefully, I will be able to get over this cold quickly.
