Thanksgiving Weekend Draws to a Close

As I write this, I am flying back to DC from Denver, Colorado. My Aunt and Uncle moved to Colorado earlier this year, and my brother, his wife, and I spent the Thanksgiving holiday with them. Their new house is located on the side of a mountain about half an hour west of Denver. The area is beautiful and rustic, and you can see animals (like deer and elk) walk on mountain trails past their house. The master bedroom has a giant bay window facing east where you can see the lights of Denver at night. I enjoyed sitting in the living room first thing in the morning and watching the sun come up over the mountains. For those who know the fact that I am not a morning person, this feat was only accomplished because I was still running on Eastern Time.

Thanksgiving dinner was fun. It is always fun to get the family together, and the food was very good. It would have been nice if my parents could have made it out to Colorado as well, but they have been busy getting settled into their new place in North Carolina. Also, my Mom doesn't like to fly, so I don't see them as getting out to Colorado any time soon.

My brother's wife is from the Phillipines, so the Thanksgiving holiday and associated American traditions are a little new to her. We decided to introduce her to the shopping madness known as "Black Friday", and took her out to one of the malls in the Denver suburbs. It's amazing to see so many people spending so much money on a single day.

The one damper on my Thanksgiving holiday was the fact that I picked up a cold on Thursday morning. The cold hasn't been that bad, but it's annoying to be sick while traveling. Plus, having a cold while sleeping somewhere other than one's own bed doesn't make for refreshing sleep. I'm looking forward to getting home and sleeping in tomorrow morning.
